Escapism: The Gift from Heaven

Some days, life feels exhausting. Everything takes effort, worries pile up, and even getting through an ordinary day can feel like a lot.

And then, I find a Chinese romance drama or a novel that hits just right.

Suddenly, I’m transported into another world.

Everyone is beautiful. The makeup is flawless, the outfits are exquisite, the houses are stunning, the streets are dreamy, and even the food looks heavenly. The dialogue is poetic, the romantic lines make my heart flutter, and every scene feels like a little work of art.

The villains get what they deserve. Kind-hearted people find happiness. Sacrifices are rewarded, wounds are healed, and love gets its happy ending.

In this world, everything is beautiful, and somehow, everything makes sense.

Give me a fragile, soft-hearted heroine and a cold, arrogant, ridiculously wealthy male lead.

Give me the angst. Give me the tension. Give me the jealousy, the heartbreak, and the deliciously sweet moments when he finally starts chasing her.

Make them overcome every obstacle. Make their love worth the wait.

And most importantly, give me a happy ending.

Ancient China, Republican-era China, modern offices, university campuses. Arranged marriages, second chances, family feuds. I’ll take them all.

Romance novels are just as wonderful. My imagination does the rest, turning words on a page into an entire world I can disappear into.

A Little Escape, A Little Happiness

When I find a story I love, I can read or watch it for hours, sometimes revisiting the same story again and again. Even when life feels overwhelming, a good romance can make me forget everything for a while.

I’m no longer dwelling on disappointments or worrying about what comes next. I’m completely absorbed in someone else’s story, feeling the heartbreak, anticipating the confession, and celebrating when the characters finally find their happiness.

And for those hours, I’m genuinely happy.

Some people might see this as escapism, as though enjoying a fictional world means refusing to face reality. But I don’t see it that way.

Not every problem can be solved immediately. Some situations require patience; some wounds simply need time. We cannot always make life better at the moment we want to.

So why must every moment of waiting be spent worrying?

If a beautiful story can give me a little joy while life takes its time, I see no reason to feel guilty about it.

I’m grateful to have the time to enjoy these little pleasures, because I know not everyone has that luxury.

For me, a good romance is more than entertainment. It’s a small refuge, a reminder that happiness can still find its way into an imperfect day.

I can close the book or turn off the screen whenever I’m ready. Until then, I get to live in a world of beautiful things, grand love stories, and happy endings.

Sometimes, escapism isn’t about running away from life. It’s about finding a little happiness along the way.
