Sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself is go to bed.
When you’re anxious, lonely, angry, overwhelmed, or simply exhausted by your own thoughts, you don’t always need to figure everything out. Sometimes, you need to shut your brain down for a while.
Because let’s be honest. An anxious mind isn’t always a productive one. It runs in circles, imagines the worst, rehearses imaginary conversations, and invents problems you can’t solve at two in the afternoon. Staying awake doesn’t necessarily make you wiser. Sometimes, it just makes you more miserable.
And if you’re tired, emotional, and running on empty, you might say something you regret, make an impulsive decision, or spend hours torturing yourself over something that doesn’t even need to be dealt with right now.
So sleep.
I don’t care if it’s nine in the morning or two in the afternoon. If I have nowhere to be, and my brain is making life unnecessarily difficult, I’m going to bed. Put on some ASMR, close my eyes, and let the world wait.
Will my problems magically disappear when I wake up? Probably not. But sometimes, the feelings that seemed unbearable a few hours ago become a little less overwhelming. The problem is still there, but I’m finally in a better place to face it.
I’ve learned that being self-assured and generally content with your life doesn’t make you immune to anxiety. Sometimes, it arrives without warning, without an obvious reason, even when everything seems perfectly fine. You can have your life together and still have days when simply existing feels strangely difficult.
I don’t always know what to do with those moments. I’m still learning to accept that some feelings don’t come with neat explanations or immediate solutions.
For now, sometimes, I sleep.
Not because sleep fixes everything, but because I don’t have to fix everything right this second, either.
I’ve been through periods when I slept eighteen hours a day just to get through life. And looking back, I’m grateful I had something as simple as sleep to help me survive those days.
Rest is not always an escape. Sometimes, it’s a reprieve. Sometimes, it’s the pause you need before you can begin again.
You don’t have to fight every feeling, solve every problem, or make sense of every thought the moment it arrives.
Sometimes, you can just close your eyes.
Let the day pass. Let your mind rest. Try again when you wake up.
Some things can wait until morning.
